Aviation Classes FAQ'S

Search our Site:
sitemap

Our aviation classes are 7/24 and can be accessed at your convenience. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any and all questions that are not answered below.

Q. How long may I take to complete the aviation class?

A. Since this aviation class is entirely self paced, the completion time varies with each student. A ground school class given in a classroom environment normally consists of two class sessions per week. Each session runs about 2-4 hours. The courses usually last about 6 weeks. In addition to the classes, the reading assignments normally add about 2-4 hours per week. Total time spent averages about 24-48 class hours plus 12-24 reading assignment hours. Total time 48-72 hours. Of course, formal classes often must adjust to the pace of the slower students. Your self paced completion time could be significantly less, but we believe that 48 hours is a reasonable expectation.

Q. Is the course accredited?

A. The aviation class is certified under FAR Part 91. It is not accredited, but many colleges accept home study courses for credit. Most schools associated with aviation will accept your Private Pilot license for credit toward an aviation degree.

Q. Will I be able to fly upon completion of the Ground School course?

A. You must receive instruction from and be signed off by an FAA-certified flight instructor before you can fly solo in the U.S. You must also pass a Private Pilot Practical Test (oral and flight ) in addition to the Private Pilot Knowledge Test (a written test) before you can receive your pilot license.

Q. Is there a time limit to complete the course?

A. Yes. You have six months from the date of password assignment to complete the aviation class. After that time your password will no longer allow access to the course.

Q. How soon after I complete the Aviation Class can I take the Practical Knowledge Test?

A. Assuming you answered at least 80% of the final exam questions correctly, our endorsement to take the Knowledge Test should arrive in the mail within 2-3 business days. You should then schedule within sixty ( 60 ) days at one of the FAA-certified testing centers (see written test locations) but we recommend taking the written as soon as possible. Of course, you are welcome to log on and go over any or all of the AviationWise lessons as a review for the Knowledge Test even after you receive our endorsement.

Q. What equipment or books do I need to complete the AviationWise course?

A. You need purchase nothing else to complete the AviationWise course, but we do urge you to purchase a flight computer, such as the E-6B or an electronic model, and a navigation plotter. While you don't need them for our aviation class, you will need them for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test and you will continue to use them throughout your flying career. They are the basic "tools of the trade" for pilots.

Q. Can I download the lessons to my computer and take the course off line?

A. You may download any page of the AviationWise course, but it is not practical to download the entire course. The database is very large. Flight schools may download our entire course with a licensing agreement. Our aviation class database contains all necessary references.

Q. Can I talk with an instructor if I run into a problem?

A. You will be assigned an instructor when you sign up for the class. You may e-mail your instructor at any time or you may e-mail your aviation-related questions to instructionalstaff@aviationwise.org. A staff instructor will respond within 24 hours after obtaining the necessary information to answer your request.

Q. Can my flight instructor teach me what I need to know to pass the Knowledge Test?

A. Yes. A competent flight instructor can teach you what you need to know to pass the test. Formal classes are also an option. Self-study through AviationWise is simply less expensive and faster. Formal classes usually cost about $150-$300 or more plus books and take at least a month or two. Your flight instructor probably charges by the hour and his hourly fee plus books would far exceed our $249.95.

Q. What are the advantages of the AviationWise Class?

A. Speed and convenience! As with any home-study course, you can complete the aviation class as fast as you want and according to your schedule.
Price. AviationWise is the most economical way to pass the Knowledge Test.
